An Explosive Introduction to the Nuclear Power Trio

Once upon a time, in the year 2017, a new sound emerged from the vibrant city of Denver, Colorado. This sound was unlike anything the world had heard before, an explosion of energy that sent shockwaves across the global music scene. The source of this sonic blast? An instrumental metal band named Nuclear Power Trio.

Now, you might be thinking, “Another metal band? What’s so special about this one?” Well, let’s start with the line-up. This isn’t your average trio; oh no, they’re nuclear in more ways than one. The band consists of three key players: Greg Burgess (also known as Donald) on guitars, Nick Schendzielos (or Vladimir) on bass, and Pete Webber (known as Kim) on drums.

Their journey began with a quest for world peace, channeling their collective capabilities for nuclear and musical power into their art. On October 30th, they unleashed their debut EP, “A Clear and Present Rager”. They took time away from their so-called duties of state to film several music videos, and they’ve been on a roll ever since.

The recording process for “A Clear and Present Rager” was anything but ordinary. Band member Donald stated, “Frankly, a lot of power trio recordings are just pathetic. We thought about records we all liked sonically and kept coming back to ‘Cattle Decapitation‘, so it was terrific that Dave had us all out to beautiful Colorado to golf and record”. Recorded in Denver by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio, the EP emerged from a single session where the band’s synergy was palpable.

Interestingly, the band members have chosen pseudonyms that mimic world leaders, adding an unusual twist to their image. This surreal path, coupled with their efficiency in working together, speaks volumes about their philosophy – they believe in the power of using a musical platform to invoke real change, not just political one.

When asked about this audacious goal of peace through music, Vladimir remarked, “Everything will probably never be good for people, but we have to try, because I truly believe in the power of music. Do you see my heart? I play from here”.

And so, the Nuclear Power Trio was born, fueled by a passion for music, a desire for change, and an explosion of creative energy.

Striking Chords with a Bang

When you first hear the Nuclear Power Trio’s music, it’s like being hit by a wave of sonic radiation. Their signature sound combines technical proficiency with sheer, unapologetic intensity, creating a musical experience that’s as electrifying as it is unique.

The band’s music falls primarily into the genre of progressive metal, a style known for its complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing. Each member brings their individual musical expertise to the table, resulting in a sound that’s a fusion of the heavy and the harmonious, the rhythmic and the melodic, the aggressive and the introspective.

“A Clear and Present Rager”, the band’s debut EP, is a prime example of their musical prowess. The title track is a whirlwind of instrumental fury, a furious composition that showcases the full breadth of the band members’ technical abilities. The tempo then shifts with “Grab ‘Em By the Pyongyang”, a heavy song that introduces some groovy influences and shows the musicians’ openness to experimenting with different styles.

“The Fusion Collision” continues in this vein, blending atomic harmonics with a raucous bass and hectic drums. Then comes “Ukraine in the Membrane”, a track that’s darker and heavier but still as energetic and fast, layered with epic lead guitar parts. The EP concludes with “Mutually Assured Seduction”, a song that ends the record on a high note, filled with a great dose of human warmth, groove, and skills.

Whether you’re a seasoned metalhead or a curious newcomer, the Nuclear Power Trio’s music is an adventure you won’t want to miss. So buckle up, turn the volume up to eleven, and let the music take you on a wild ride through the world of progressive metal. It’s a journey that promises to be every bit as exciting and unpredictable as the band’s own story.
